Indonesia is the most seismically active country on Earth, sitting at the meeting point of three major tectonic plates along the Sunda Arc. The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake (M9.1) off Sumatra triggered one of the deadliest tsunamis in history. The country experiences several large earthquakes every year.
